LaMar S. McGinnis M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. McGinnis is
a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, and completed
surgical residencies at the University of Texas Medical Center in
Galveston, Texas, and Bellevue Hospital in New York, New
York. Dr. McGinnis is board certified in general surgery and
is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a past
national president of the American Cancer Society and has
held numerous other leadership positions at the national and state
levels. He is the current medical director for the Charles
Eberhart Cancer Center. He is also a member of the DeKalb Medical
Society, Medical Association of Georgia and the Georgia Surgical
Society, among others. He has been in the private practice of
general and oncologic surgery since 1963, and is on staff at
DeKalb Medical Center. In September 2002, Dr. McGinnis
retired from active clinical practice, but remains very active in
his role at the American Cancer Society, and as medical director
for the Eberhart Cancer Center.
In 1998, the Distinguished Service Award was presented to
Dr. McGinnis by the American College of Surgeons, the most
prestigious honor that can be bestowed on a Fellow in the
College. In 2001, he served as the Second Vice President for the American College of Surgeons.
